How we can help

Paying for your care

Paying for your care at Bramhall Residential Home differs depending on the type and level of care required with other factors being the homes facilities, as well as the size of the bedroom.  Therefore, the weekly cost of living at Bramhall may have differing ranges in price, so please feel free to speak to us.  When it comes to considering Bramhall or any other care home in the UK, it's completely normal to have questions regarding the financial side of things.

Below is a friendly overview:

Care Assessment: The first step is a care needs assessment conducted by the local authority. They simply want to understand your specific care requirements to ensure you receive the right level of support.

Means Test: The local authority will also conduct a means test to determine your financial contribution towards care home costs. It's just a way to evaluate your income, savings, and assets. If your savings and assets exceed a certain threshold (around £23,250 in England), you may be responsible for covering the full cost of care.

Local Authority Funding: If your means test indicates limited assets, the local authority may contribute to your care home costs. They want to ensure you receive the care you need. However, keep in mind that their funding options might be restricted to specific care homes, which could affect your choice.

Self-Funding: If you don't qualify for local authority funding or prefer to choose Bramhall despite exceeding the funding limit, don't worry. Self-funding is an option, which means you'll be responsible for paying the care home fees yourself. It gives you the freedom to select the care and room that feels right for you.

Care Home Fees: Care home fees may vary depending on factors such as location, facilities, and level of care provided.  It's important to explore different options at Bramhall and find the one that not only suits your needs but also fits comfortably within your budget.

NHS Funding: In certain cases where there are complex healthcare needs, you may be eligible for NHS Continuing Healthcare funding. This funding covers the full cost of care, including accommodation, for individuals with substantial and ongoing healthcare needs. It's an avenue worth exploring if it applies to your situation.

Property and Assets: If you happen to own a property, its value may be considered in the means test. However, you can rest assured that you generally won't be forced to sell your home to pay for care if your spouse or dependent relative still resides there. They understand the importance of keeping families together.

Remember, you're not alone in this journey. Seek guidance from a financial advisor or reach out to your local authority's social services department. They are there to provide you with the support and information you need. Take your time, ask questions, and together we'll navigate the financial aspects of residing at Bramhall, ensuring you make confident and informed decisions.

Paying for permanent residential care (ageuk.org.uk)

  • Residents may be eligible for funding by the local authority if their capital (savings and value of their home*) is less than £14,250. *the value of the home would only be included in the value of a resident’s assets, if they live alone.
  • The local authority may pay for a portion of residents' funding if their capital is between £14,250 and £23,250. For every £250 a resident has over the lower amount, the local authority will subtract £1 per week from the money they contribute.
  • If a resident's capital exceeds £23,250, then they must pay the full cost of accommodation and personal care. Those who are eligible for funding may be required to provide a third-party top-up.

My mother has been at Bramhall Residential home for 10 years. She says the owners and staff are very good. She says as soon as she rings her bell someone attends her needs. She had her 100th birthday last week and the home was very helpful with her party.
